ESG Information Mediation Service: The key to interoperability

IMS provides Lithuanian Armed Forces interoperability with the multinational NATO Enhanced Forward Presence Battlegroup

In February, the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) handed over to the Lithuanian Armed Forces the installation data carrier bearing the "Information Mediation Service (IMS)" software developed by ESG Elektroniksystem- und Logistik-GmbH. The software makes it possible for the first time to ensure a uniform view of the field situation on all levels of command for all nations party to the Enhanced Forward Presence. This represents a significant step towards achieving full interoperability for deployed forces, significantly increasing their capability and operational value.

Germany has been the lead nation in charge of the Multinational Battle Group in Lithuania since February 2017. Ensuring adequate interoperability among participating nations was a key challenge from the start of usage of the software.
In May 2017 ESG held an on-site demonstration which proved that the Information Mediation Service developed by the company reliably provides the required capability ‘out of the box’. In late 2018 ESG was commissioned by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) to supply the Information Mediation Service under an agreement between the governments of Lithuania and Germany.

The ESG IMS is a stand-alone service which ensures interoperability between different command systems via international interfaces and special proprietary/national solutions. The service makes it possible for the first time to interconnect multiple nations simultaneously via different standards to achieve a shared, uniform situation view.
The commissioning again underscores how products and solutions of the specialist ESG are effective for modern, user-friendly and fully interoperable battle management systems.
