Federal President Steinmeier and the President of the Republic of Finland, Niinistö, learn about the Bundeswehr's drone defence system.

Secure protection against threats from drones was part of the agenda of the official visit of the President of the Republic of Finland, Sauli Niinistö, to Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Bonn on 16 November.
As part of a live demonstration at the Hardthöhe in Bonn, the Bundeswehr showed the two heads of state the capabilities of the "defence system against unmanned aerial vehicles" (ASUL) developed and supplied by ESG Elektroniksystem- und Logistik-GmbH. The successfully introduced ASUL drone defence system provides the Bundeswehr with all the necessary capabilities in a stationary overall system for field camp protection as part of a holistic air defence system: With the modular counter-UAS system, small unmanned aircraft systems can be detected, classified and identified as well as countered in real time. It was a special honour for the ESG team to actively support the comrades of the German Armed Forces under the leadership of the German Air Force during the demonstration in front of the Federal President and his state guest.

Christoph Otten, CEO of ESG, said during the live demo: "The need for the best possible protection against threats from drones of different sizes is evident in wars and conflicts every day. We see it as a real obligation to transfer the capabilities and technological expertise we have continuously developed since the G7 summit in 2015 into the protection of our Bundeswehr on operations as well as into the protection of our population and our allies: We are proud to be able to make valuable contributions to greater security with our modular counter-UAS system and consider it a special honour - together with our partner, the Bundeswehr - to be able to demonstrate these capabilities to our Federal President and the President of the Republic of Finland."
